Blueline bus runs over Class 10 student in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) A Class 10 student was run over Wednesday by a privately operated Blueline bus while boarding it in northeast Delhi. A mob then vandalised the bus and manhandled the driver, the police said.Sanchit Gupta, 16, came under the rear wheels of the vehicle when he tried to board the running Blueline bus plying on route number 236 between Anand Vihar to Nangloi at Shastri Park T-point around 7.30 a.m.

Gupta, a resident of New Usmanpur area, was taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After the accident, a mob, comprising students and passers-by, smashed windowpanes of the bus and vandalised it.

They also beat up bus driver Karmveer, who had to be rescued by the police. Karmveer, a resident of Nangloi, was admitted to the GTB hospital.

The police said that after primary treatment he was arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against him.

Manish Gupta, Sanchit’s father, works in a private company and his mother Sunita is a schoolteacher.

As the news of accident reached the victim’s HM DAV Senior Secondary School in Daryaganj area, students from many schools took to the roads and pelted stones at many Blueline buses in Kashmiri Gate and Seelampur areas, damaging over 20 vehicles.

The police said no student was taken into preventive custody for causing damage to public vehicles.

Gupta became the 69th victim this year of Blueline buses, which have already earned the notoriety of killer buses. Last year, at least 120 people were run over by Blueline buses.
