New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) The capital’s saga of shame continued Monday as a 24-year-old blind woman was allegedly raped by a rickshaw puller in northeast Delhi, while in another incident a neighbour allegedly tried to sexually assault a seven-year-old girl in west Delhi. The blind woman told the police that a rickshaw puller misled her and took her to an unknown place and raped her.

The woman, a resident of Dwarka, was going to a blind school in Timparpur area from Delhi University by rickshaw.

“She said the man took her to an unknown area and raped her. She said she could not identify the accused as she is blind. We took her to a government hospital, where doctors confirmed sexual assault,” said a police official.

“All the rickshaw pullers have been put under scanner and we are trying to find more details. A case has been registered,” the official added.

In the second incident, a man was arrested for allegedly trying to molest a seven-year-old girl in Moti Nagar Monday afternoon.

The police said the girl had gone to the house of her neighbour, Umesh, an auto driver. Umesh tried to assault her.

“Umesh started misbehaving with the girl and tried to rape her. But the girl started screaming and alerted the people outside. Hearing her screams, locals rescued the girl and beat up the accused,” said a police official.

The man was handed over to police and was stated to have confessed to his crime.

Delhi had witnessed around 330 incidents of sexual offences including 121 incidents of rape this year.
