New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday welcomed the resignation of Home Minister Shivraj Patil in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks but said the move was too little too late.BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government too had no right to govern.

“This (Mumbai horror) proves the collective culpable negligence of the government. It is the collective responsibility of the government. The union government has no right to serve the nation,” he said.

About Patil’s resignation, he added: “It is too little too late.”

BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley added that Patil’s resignation was long pending.

Patil offered to quit at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting Saturday night following the Mumbai terrorist attacks in which 183 people, including 22 foreigners, were killed. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday.

BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said: “India was never so vulnerable and it was the entire failure of the UPA government. May I ask a question? Why did it take nine hours for the government to send NSG commandos to Mumbai?

“Terrorists were doing preparations for the last six months, they did a recce of the entire sea route. How can the government explain this? This is India’s 9/11 and country should respond the way America did,” he added.

Prasad also asked the government to press Pakistan to hand over underworld don Dawood Ibrahim to India.

“Dawood was involved in the 1993 serial bombings in Mumbai and his name has come up in this attack also,” Prasad added.

He also accused Patil of “not allowing the investigative agencies freedom to work which had a crippling affect and the consequences are seen now”.
