Lucknow, June 1 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met Uttar Pradesh Governor B.L. Joshi here Wednesday to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry against the Mayawati government in connection with what they called “a Rs.5,000 crore land scam” in Greater Noida.
“If the inquiry is conducted, the chief minister Mayawati would be unmasked, as the corrupt practices of her government will be exposed. We apprised the governor about the seriousness of the case and sought his intervention for a CBI enquiry,” BJP spokesperson Vijay Pathak told reporters here.
The BJP has alleged that on the pretext of undertaking developmental schemes, the Mayawati government forcibly acquired over one crore square feet land in Dostpur-Mangrauli village in Greater Noida. Thereafter, the land was transformed into farm houses that were also allotted to non-existent companies.
“Along with the memorandum, we also submitted some of the evidence we had gathered against a couple of private companies that came into existence a few months before the allotment of farm houses,” said Pathak.
Led by BJP vice president Kalraj Mishra and state party president Surya Pratap Shahi, the BJP also sought the governor’s intervention to initiate a judicial enquiry into the violence in Bhatta-Parsual villages in Greater Noida.
Last month, violent clashes between farmers demanding higher compensation for land acquired by the government and police led to deaths of four people, including two policemen.
