New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to step down Sunday over allegations of corruption, party sources said.
Sources said Saturday that party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad along with state election incharge Rajnath Singh will go to the state Sunday and meet party legislators to elect a new chief minister.
Former chief minister B.C. Khanduri was most likely to replace Pokhriyal, said sources after a meeting of the BJP parliamentary board.
Sources said the party was not satisfied with Pokhriyal’s performance and thought the alleged corruption cases against him could affect the BJP in the forthcoming assembly election.
Besides BJP president Nitin Gadkari, the meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Dharmendra Pradhan and Thawar Chand Gehlot.
