Jalandhar, Jan 24 (IANS) Promising to set up the office of an “empowered Lokayukta” in Punjab, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said properties and wealth of corrupt leaders would be confiscated and declared government property if the party was voted to power.
Releasing the BJP’s manifesto for the Jan 30 elections to Punjab’s 117 assembly seats, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance in Punjab was “in favor of an empowered Lokayukta and not a mere paper tiger”.
“All the leaders, who have amassed wealth disproportionate to known source of income, will face the music as their entire wealth would be declared government property,” he told media here.
The BJP is contesting 23 out of 117 assembly seats in Punjab.
The BJP manifesto also promised to bring more services under the ambit of the Right to Service Act introduced in Punjab last year. It said that officials will be made more accountable.
The party also promised to abolish octroi on petrol and diesel for residents of cities and towns across Punjab.
