New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS) Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, including several leaders, were detained as they staged a protest march here against the police baton-charge during their agitation two days ago.
“We reached Jantar Mantar at around 11.30 a.m. and raised slogans to protest the lathicharge on Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists by police Tuesday. As we were nearing Parliament Street, some of the protesters were taken into custody,” BJP leader Vijay Jolly told IANS.
Jolly, along with other BJP leaders like Delhi party president Vijender Gupta, were among those restrained by the police.
Apart from condemning Tuesday’s incident, the protesters demanded Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s resignation after a Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report blamed her government in the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.
Meanwhile, a police official, who did not want to be named, said the protestors were released after a short time.
BJYM activists Tuesday staged protests to demand that Dikshit resign in wake of the CAG report. Police lobbed teargas shells, used water cannons and a baton charge to disperse them.
