BJP, JD-U set for divorce in Uttar Pradesh?

Lucknow, Dec 29 (IANS) Even as they sing the same tune nationally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) appear set for a divorce in election-bound Uttar Pradesh.
Dropping enough hints of not being on the same side of the electoral battle, the JD-U state unit has now begun preparations to field as many as 250 candidates.
State JD-U president Suresh Niranjan Bhaiya said they had got applications for 250 constituencies and shortlisting was on in case the last-minute effort to patch up with the BJP did not work out.
The cracks in the alliance began to show when BJP president Nitin Gadkari earlier this month categorically state that his party would fight the February elections in Uttar Pradesh on its own.
