BJP expresses concern over Anna Hazare’s health
August 23rd, 2011 - 7:54 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday expressed concern over the health of Anna Hazare, whose fast for a stronger Lokpal (ombudsman) bill continued for the eighth day.
“The fast is having an adverse effect on Shri Anna Hazare’s health. BJP is seriously concerned about the state of health of Shri Anna Hazare,” party president Nitin Gadkari said in a statement.
“Bharatiya Janata Party expresses grave concern over the situation all over the country, which is a direct fallout of the deadlock between the government and the movement led by Anna Hazare,” he said.
The BJP president also said a situation needed to be created in which Hazare, 74, could break the fast.
“BJP is worried about this overall situation, which is the making of the inept UPA leadership. The bill prepared by the government has proved to be totally worthless,” he said.
He also stressed that a strong Lokpal needed to be created and prime minister should be brought under its purview.
“BJP strongly reiterates that India needs a strong and independent Lokpal where the prime minister is also brought under its purview… BJP demands a strong mechanism ensuring transparent, independent and impartial judiciary as well,” Gadkari said.
“Due to several scams and scandals unearthed during the last two years, this government has totally lost credibility. It has also failed to win the confidence of the civil society. The sooner it acts for setting up a strong and effective Lokpal, the better for the entire nation,” he added.
Even as government invited Anna Hazare’s team members for talks Tuesday, the activist’s health condition deteriorated.
“Pray for Anna’s health. He is reaching a difficult stage. Dr. Trehan is on his way,” team Anna member Kiran Bedi tweeted.
