New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday called a man arrested for the Ahmedabad bomb blasts a “terrorist” and branded Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) politicians who went to sympathise with his family as “cheer leaders of terrorism”.“The visit by Ram Naresh Yadav of the Congress, followed by BSP’s Akbar Ahmad, Samajwadi Party’s Abu Azmi and the Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmad Bukhari, to terrorist Mufti Abu Bashir’s family in Azamgarh confirm our stand that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and its allies are soft on terror,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here.

Bashir, an alleged member of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), was arrested this week by the Gujarat police in connection with the serial blasts in Ahmedabad in July that killed at least 50 people and injured over hundred.

According to the police, Bashir was the mastermind and has reportedly confessed to carrying out the blasts. The leaders of political parties had visited Bashir’s house Thursday in Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.

“The country has seen a new phenomenon of cheer girls in cricket. But the visit of these political stalwarts to the house of a terrorist and extending their support and sympathy to his family … is disgusting,” the BJP spokesman told reporters. Rudy repeatedly called Bashir a terrorist.

Rudy also criticised Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and Railway Minister Lalu Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party leader and Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan for calling for the lifting of the ban on SIMI.
