Bhubaneswar, March 2 (IANS) Birla Tyres, a unit of the BK Birla Group company Kesoram Industries, resumed production at its Orissa plant Monday, a company official said.
The factory at Balasore town, some 200 km from here, was closed down temporarily Feb 16 for the third time on account of poor market conditions.

“We resumed full production today (Monday) even though the market condition has not yet improved. We will review the situation after 10 days,” a senior plant official told IANS on condition that his name should not be disclosed because he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“If the market conditions do not improve, we may consider another shutdown,” he said.

The unit employs around 2,200 people. Set up to manufacture automobile tyres, tubes and flaps, it started commercial production in March 1992.

According to the company, the unit has an installed capacity of 1.50 million tyres, tubes and flaps per year. Approximately, 30 percent of its production is exported to 43 countries.

The factory was earlier closed for about 15 days in December and 13 days in January. It resumed production Feb 1.
