‘Bilawal to take up political responsibility in September’

Benazir Bhutto Islamabad, April 28 (IANS) Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto will “take up some political responsibility in September”, said his father and President Asif Ali Zardari.

Zardari made the announcement of Bilawal taking up “some political responsibility in September this year” at a meeting with party lawmakers Wednesday.

Farhatullah Khan Babar, the president’s spokesperson, did not elaborate on what “political responsibility” would be given to Bilawal.

Bilawal was made the PPP chairman after his mother Benazir Bhutto was killed in 2007. It was also decided then that till completion of Bilawal’s education, Asif Ali Zardari would run the party affairs as a co-chairman.

Benazir was assassinated Dec 27, 2007, as she was leaving Liaqat Bagh in a motorcade after addressing an election rally in Rawalpindi, the twin city of Islamabad.

“We have had no smooth sailing… (but) we have not only survived but waded through gigantic challenges successfully and achieved significant achievements on all fronts,” Zardari was quoted as saying.
