Bihar transfers land for AMU centre
December 30th, 2011 - 10:00 pm ICT by IANSAligarh, Dec 30 (IANS) The Bihar government Friday transferred 224.02 acres of land in Kishanganj district to the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for establishing a centre in the state, a varsity statement said.
Two Bihar ministers and the local MP and the legislator, AMU Vice Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis and officials, and state government officials were present on the occasion.
The Bihar government assured all possible support in providing the necessary infrastructure for the new centre, including roads, an electricity substation as well as water lines to the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdul Azis assured that the AMU would put the centre on the fast track and within a couple of days a consultant will be appointed to submit detailed project and finance reports so that the university can submit a suitable proposal for funding and approval.
He said the Kishanganj centre project will be similar to that of the AMU Malappuram Centre and Murshidabad Centre in terms of facilities and long-term plans. The AMU Kishanganj Centre will be a state-of-the-art centre of higher education with world class facilities and technological support, he added.
The vice chancellor also said that if the state government provides temporary accommodation, the university hopes to launch some of its programmes in the next academic session itself.
