September 15th, 2011 - 2:50 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Sep 15 (IANS) A man in Bihar’s Purnea district committed suicide after the death of his cow, which he loved “like a human being”, police said Thursday.
Lakhi Kant Dutta, 45, a resident of Kushkibagh in the district, 350 km from here, committed suicide Wednesday, police said.
“Dutt was depressed following the death of his cow earlier this week. His body was found hanging from a tree at a orchard Wednesday night,” a police official said.
His wife Kanchan Rani Dutta told the police about her husband’s unflinching love for the animal. “My husband could not bear the cow’s death and hanged himself,” she said.
She informed the police that her husband used to sleep in the cowshed and loved the animal like a human being.
