Bihar: JD-U retains Darounda
October 17th, 2011 - 8:35 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Oct 17 (IANS) Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Monday retained the Darounda assembly seat in Siwan district, with its candidate Kavita Singh defeating RJD’s Parmeshwar Singh by over 20,000 votes.
Kavita Singh is the daughter-in-law of JD-U legislator Jagmato Dev, whose death necessitated the Oct 13 by-election. Congress candidate Kalika Saran Singh came a distant third.
Kavita polled 51,754 votes as against 31,662 of the RJD candidate. The candidate got only 4,238 votes.
It was the second by-election after the Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power last year.
