Bid to ’sell’ minor girl, three held
July 16th, 2011 - 11:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 16 (IANS) Three people, including two women, were arrested in north Delhi for trying to sell a minor girl for marriage, police said Saturday.
Kavita, 28, Anu, 20, and Sangeet, 24, the buyer, were arrested Friday from Model Town.
Originally from the south Delhi village of Samalkha, the accused women were staying temporarily in Model Town.
According to police, the minor girl worked with Kavita in her boutique in the village.
Kavita and Anu locked the victim in a house in Model Town and started negotiating with Sangeet on the price for “selling” her.
“The accused women were demanding Rs.25,000 while Sangeet was willing to pay Rs.15,000,” a police official said.
The father of the girl knew Kavita and suspected that she was up to something wrong. He complained to the police following which the accused were arrested, said police.
