Betting gang busted in Gurgaon
July 27th, 2010 - 8:24 pm ICT by IANSGurgaon, July 27 (IANS) A cricket-betting gang was busted with the arrest of eight people in Gurgaon, a satellite town of the national capital, police said Tuesday.
“Eight accused have been arrested on the spot and five others are also wanted. Arms and ammunition, including five revolvers, 29 live cartridges, four laptops and 51 mobiles were recovered from them,” said Alok Mittal, joint commissioner of police, Gurgaon.
The police raided house number 116 in Mohyal colony of Sector 40 Monday evening where the accused were found betting on the ongoing second cricket test between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo.
One of the accused, identified as Subhash opened fire at the police. The double-storey house used by the accused for betting is owned by Mahesh alias ‘Attack’ of Jharsa village, against whom 15 criminal cases were registered.
The cases include four of murder, two of dacoity, two of robbery, and three of attempt to murder.
The arrested were produced in court and sent to judicial remand of 14 days.
