Better infrastructure in northeast to enhance capability: IAF chief
December 12th, 2011 - 9:44 pm ICT by IANSShillong, Dec 12 (IANS) Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K Browne Monday underscored the need to develop infrastructure in the northeastern region to enhance the operational capability of the Eastern Air Command (EAC).
“Infrastructure development, especially in the eastern region, induction and speedy operationalisation of new equipment, aviation and maintenance safety and welfare of the air warriors which are the greatest asset of the organisation are the need of the hour,” he said, addressing the officers of the command here.
On his maiden three-day visit to the northeast region as IAF chief, Browne arrived at the EAC headquarters here Monday and would visit other IAF bases in Guwahati, Tezpur and Chabua to oversee the planned infrastructure development by the force in the region.
The air chief stressed upon the importance of operations and infrastructure development with the aim of increasing accessibility to the region.
Urging all the air commanders to focus on supporting, supervising, counselling, mentoring and guiding those under their charge during training as well as in the units, Browne, a fighter combat leader, said: “Invest your time and energy in people, our most important asset.”
“Our entire focus must be on the operations as we are doing capability enhancement across the board in terms of new inductions. I can assure you, you have all my support in achieving your long-term objectives,” he added.
The air chief also complimented all the commanders under Eastern Air Command for their sustained air maintenance efforts in carrying out disaster relief operations during the Sikkim earthquake and Odisha floods.
