Best supporting actress award for Penelope Cruz
December 5th, 2008 - 1:05 pm ICT by IANSLos Angeles, Dec 5 (IANS) Spanish actress Penelope Cruz won the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures’ (NBRMP) best supporting actress award for her role in the Woody Allen comedy “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” EFE reported Friday.Among the nominees that Cruz beat for the award was Kate Winslet, who is considered a likely Oscar nominee for her work in the films “Revolutionary Road” and “The Reader”.
Cruz and Javier Bardem also are among the nominees in the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards for their performances in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, mentioned by the NBRMP one of the year’s 10 best motion pictures.
The winner of the best picture award was “Slumdog Millionaire,” directed by Danny Boyle, while the best director prize went to David Fincher for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.
