Bentley gets an expensive number in Punjab!

Jalandhar, Aug 12 (IANS) If you buy a car as expensive as a Bentley costing anything between Rs.15-20 million, you may want to get a fancy registration number for it as well. A Delhi-based businessman has done just that, buying a ‘0001′ series number for his luxury car for a whopping Rs.725,000 here. The businessman, Pravin Chaudhary, bought the ‘VIP registration number’ for his Bentley car at an open auction of numbers held here Monday.
District transport officer Babita Kler confirmed that the number was sold for Rs.725,000.
This is the highest auction amount for any VIP number in Punjab.
Punjab started auctioning VIP numbers last year after seeing the success of a similar practice in the union territory of Chandigarh where preferred registration numbers are auctioned by authorities.
In Chandigarh, ‘0001′ series numbers have fetched around Rs 500,000 in the past.
