New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Bayern Munich gave India a tough lesson in football with the Germans leading 4-0 at the halfway mark at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here Tuesday.
Mario Gomez opened the scoring in the 14th minute while a brace from youngster Thomas Muller in the 29th and 37th minutes highlighted India’s defensive frailties. A pile-driver from vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 43rd minute put the hosts four down in the first half.
Muller came to the limelight in the 2010 FIFA World Cup where he was the joint top scorer with five goals. The 22-year-old was awarded the Golden Boot in the tournament for his goals and three assists.
Big European teams tried to pry him away from the Allianz Arena after his exploits in the World Cup but the young German decided to stay with Bayern for whom he has scored 59 goals in 170 appearances.
