Barcelona invited to play in Brazil
February 19th, 2012 - 2:19 pm ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, Feb 19 (IANS) Brazilian media giant TV Globo has invited FC Barcelona to play in a four-team football tournament in Brazil.
The event is planned to take place during the off-season and at the time of the 2012 London Olympics.
TV Globo is expecting to put together the tournament July 27- August 12, the dates of the London Games. With football games widely suspended due to the Olympics, TV Globo is hoping to capitalise on the “free time” and organise an international tournament.
Flamengo and Corinthians have reportedly already confirmed their presence for the event. TV Globo is attempting close a deal with one more of the big clubs in Brazil, potentially Santos or Internacional. Representatives of Barcelona are yet to respond to the invitation, Xinhua reports.
