April 18th, 2011 - 1:01 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, April 18 (IANS) Hizbut Tahrir, a banned Islamist outfit, managed to hold a demonstration Sunday in Rawalpindi by hoodwinking the police, a media report said.
The outfit had announced a protest meet at a market place. A few activists reached the spot and they were promptly dispersed by waiting policemen. One of the activists was arrested, the Dawn newspaper reported Monday.
Simultaneously, over 100 Hizbut Tahrir activists, holding placards and banners, gathered at Liaquat Bagh. They chanted slogans against the US and the government. Hizbut Tahrir wants to establish an Islamic state.
They blocked a road for half an hour, causing a traffic jam.
“We held a dummy demonstration to keep the police away,” Dawn quoted Imran Yousafzai, a spokesman for Hizbut Tahrir, as saying.
“We deceived police to save our workers from arrest.”
