New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) A commander of a banned Manipuri militant outfit, engaged in the drug trade, and his associate have been arrested from Bangalore and Manipur respectively, Delhi Police said Monday.

“Sunil Meitei, 35, who hails from Bishnupur of Manipur, was held from Banglore on June 29,” said a senior police officer, adding that he was brought to Delhi and is in police custody.

Meitei, of Kangleipak Communist Party-Mobile Task Force (KCP-MTF), was on Delhi Police’s radar after two residents of Manipur, arrested recently with a haul of drugs, revealed he was the mastermind.

During investigation, Delhi Police informed Manipur Police about his assocate T. Robindro, 43, who too was arrested on June 29, and has also been brought to Delhi. T.Robindro is the main facilitator and sympathizer of the outfit.

Police said that Meitei ran a small grocery shop after passing Class 10. “His elder brother Ranzit was the publicity secretary of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL ), a banned terrorist outfit. He also started to work for the outfit and was arrested by Manipur Police in 2003. He got a bail in that case. In 2006, he started working for KYKL as overground worker,” said the officer.

Meitei was again arrested in 2007 and in jail he came in touch with City Meitei, the founder of MTF group of the banned KCP and joined the organisation.

After release from jail, Meitei worked under Kesho Meitei, the chief commander of KCP (MTF), and used to collect money and also recruit cadres for the outfit.

“In 2010, he left the group and formed his own group KCP (MTF-Sunil Meitei). He stayed in Nepal for about one year and then shifted to Aizawl. In 2011, he shifted from Aizawl to Bangalore. Since then he was living there,” said the officer.

“Meitei would extort money from various various government departments and sitting members of legislative assembly in Manipur and invest in the illicit trade of drugs. He got training in the training camp of KYKL in Bangladesh. During his training, he got expertise in handing of various arms and ammunition,” said the officer.
