Bandit gunned down in Uttar Pradesh
September 30th, 2011 - 12:08 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 30 (IANS) A bandit wanted in over 15 cases, including murder and abduction, was gunned down by police in a forested area of Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district, an official said Friday.
Shiv Kumar alias Hariya Kol, 33, who carried a reward of Rs.50,000 for his capture, was shot dead in the Manikpur forest area late Thursday during a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and the district police.
“We raided the forest area. Kol and his aides started firing at the police teams. We also retaliated and Kumar was killed in the gun battle,” police inspector T.R. Verma told reporters in Chitrakoot, 300 km from here.
“Kumar, who primarily used to operate in the Bundelkhand region, had 19 cases against him at different police stations of Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
