Ghaziabad, June 9 (IANS) A Ghaziabad court Thursday granted bail to farmers’ leader Satya Pal Chaudhary, who has been accused of sheltering Manvir Teotia, the man wanted for his role in last month’s Bhatta-Parsaul agitation that claimed four lives, a lawyer said.

The bail was granted by the court of additional chief judicial magistrate. But Chaudhary continues to be in prison in connection with another case.

Chaudhary’s lawyer Khalid Khan said: “Police fabricated a false case against him.”

A police team raided Chaudhary’s house in Chipyana village and arrested him Wednesday. Teotia, who was in the house, managed to escape.

Teotia carries a reward of Rs.50,000 for his arrest.

Chaudhary is the leader on whose writ the land acquisition in certain parts of Noida Extension was quashed by the Allahabad High Court.

Chaudhary is an accused in another case related to Jat leaders snapping water supply to Delhi from Muradnagar-based Upper Ganges Canal treatment plant in June 2010.

His bail plea in the water agitation case is likely to come in court Monday, Khan said.
