Dubai, Aug 28 (IANS) Bahrain has launched a new women empowerment project designed to raise the status of women in that Gulf nation.Launched by Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the project is part of its economic empowerment programme in cooperation with the country’s Labour Fund and the Bahrain Training Institute (BTI), the official Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.
Acting director of programmes and projects at the SCW, Ezz Al Deen Al Moayyed said the SCW has already begun a tailoring and design project under the new programme.
All procedures have been completed and women who have joined the project will start their six-month training at the BTI from Sep 14, he said.
Moayyed added that the project was aimed at training laid-off factory workers and job seekers in tailoring, design and embroidery skills.
The women will be supplied with necessary equipment so that they can run their projects from their homes units initially, he added.
The women’s section of the Mashael Al Khair committee at the Islamic Society, will be in charge of running and supervising the project.
Apart from this, the SCW was also planning a transportation project, to be conducted by the council in cooperation with the Labour Fund.
This project is aimed at supporting and training female job seekers and enabling them to manage small projects in transportation, according to Al Moayyed.
The project will provide women willing to work in such projects with facilities to enable them to own buses for group transportation and thus create new job opportunities for women and improve their living standards, he said.
