Bag containing over Rs.5 lakh stolen from bank
December 6th, 2010 - 11:27 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 6 (IANS) A bag containing Rs.545,000 and belonging to a supervisor of a Punjab-based private company was stolen from a bank here Monday evening, police said.
According to police, Jaspal Singh came to HDFC Bank in Sector 17 here with a bag carrying Rs.25 lakh. After depositing nearly Rs.20 lakh in the bank, he sat on a chair and placed the bag containing the rest of the cash beside him.
“I had to deposit the remaining amount in another bank. After a few minutes when I looked for my bag, it was missing. There were around Rs.545,000 in the bag. Four youths who were sitting behind me were also missing from the bank,” said Jaspal Singh.
However, the empty bag was later found in Sector 18.
Jaswinder Singh, investigation officer of the case, said: “A complaint has been registered.”
