Bad weather caused crash?
May 26th, 2011 - 3:43 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 26 (IANS) Strong winds may have caused the air ambulance crash at Faridabad that claimed 10 lives, officials of the Delhi-based Air Chartered Services India Pvt Ltd (Acsipl) from which the aircraft was hired said Thursday.
The single engine chartered aircraft hired by Delhi’s Apollo Hospital from Acsipl crashed into a densely-populated residential colony in Faridabad near the hospital Wednesday night.
“The strong wind was the main reason for the crash. When the plane started from Patna, the weather was normal but the sudden change in the wind pattern was the reason for the air ambulance crash. We are holding a detailed enquiry into the matter,” an official of Acsipl told IANS.
The operator has three chartered flight services — BE-B200 (Super King Air), BE-C90A (King Air C90) and PC-12 (Pilatus)– for air ambulances.
“The nine seater PC-12 turboprop plane was in good condition, we have been flying the air ambulance service for the Delhi Apollo Hospital for the past six years,” the official said.
“We provide air ambulance services for almost all the private health chain hospitals in Delhi and this is the first time such a tragic incident has occurred,” the official said.
The crash killed 10, which included seven on board and three people on the ground.
The air ambulance was carrying 20-year-old student Rahul Raj, who was in a critical condition and was being shifted to Apollo Hospital.
Along with Rahul and his cousin, there was a five-member team from Apollo Hospital on board the aircraft. Two Delhi-based doctors from the hospital, Rajesh Jain and Syed Arshad Abbas, a male nurse from Patna, Cyril P. Joy, and two pilots, Capt Harpreet Singh and Capt Manjeet Singh, were among those killed.
Apart from people on the chartered plane, 55-year-old Vedvati, her daughter Sarita (19) and daughter-in-law Rani (20) were killed as the plane nosedived into their house in Faridabad.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Thursday announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh each to the kin of the three Faridabad residents killed.
A sum of Rs.20,000 each will be given to the three injured locals who helped in the rescue operations
