Baby Falak’s chances of survival bleak: Doctor
February 2nd, 2012 - 2:06 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) The chances of two-year-old Falak surviving are bleak, a doctor closely monitoring the condition of the battered baby at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for over two weeks said Thursday.
“Her chances of survival are bleak at less than 50 percent,” Deepak Agrawal, associate professor of neurosurgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, told reporters here.
Constant medical investigations have revealed that she has developed septicemia, an infection in the blood which can spread to vital organs, apart from the already existing brain and chest infection.
The doctors were observing how the toddler was responding to antibiotics by sending her body fluid samples for another round of culture tests.
“We are monitoring her vital organs and administering strong antibiotics to stop spreading the infection to other parts. She is moving her eyes, arms and legs slightly. But she is in a deeply unconscious state,” Agrawal said.
“We are not going to perform any surgery as of now. We have to wait and see how she responds to the medicines administered,” he added.
Falak was brought to AIIMS Jan 18 with severe head injuries and bite marks all over her face by a 14-year-old girl who is now in a juvenile home.
Police Wednesday claimed to be closer to cracking the case after arresting the father of the teenaged girl and two other people who had forced her into prostitution.
