Baby Falak taken off ventilator, still unconscious
February 3rd, 2012 - 12:47 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) Two-year-old Falak, who has been battling for life after being battered and beaten, has been taken off the ventilator though she continues to be critical and is still unconscious, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said Friday.
“Her condition has shown slight improvement. We took her off the ventilator Friday morning,” Deepak Agrawal, associate professor of neurosurgery at the AIIMS trauma centre, told IANS.
“Her blood parameters are showing that the infection might be responding to the drugs,” he added.
However, the doctor was quick to add that the baby continues to remain critical.
“She is unconscious and continues to remain critical. We are waiting for her culture report now,” said Agrawal.
Falak was brought to AIIMS Jan 18 with severe head injuries and bite marks all over her face by a 14-year-old girl who is now in a juvenile home.
Battling chest, brain and blood infections, she is being fed through a tube.
Four people have been arrested in the case.
