October 31st, 2009 - 12:08 am ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

Chandigarh, Oct 30 (IANS) The Chandigarh administration Friday ordered an audit of the funds received and expenditure incurred by all government schools in the union territory after suspending the principal and four teachers of a school for alleged financial irregularities, an official said.
Chandigarh’s home-cum-education secretary Ram Niwas ordered an audit within a month after suspending the principal and four teachers of the Government Senior Secondary School in Sector 45 here.

“I have received a report from one of our senior officials pointing towards gross anomalies in the school functioning. We have immediately suspended five teachers including the principal and referred the matter to the vigilance department for further probe,” Niwas said.

Niwas suspended the five after the sub-divisional magistrate submitted an inquiry report recommending disciplinary action against them.

The sub-divisional magistrate conducted a probe after protest by parents accusing the principal of demanding huge sums of money from students.

“The report has indicated that school authorities were charging unnecessary fees and various other charges from the students. We cannot allow such malpractices to happen here,” Niwas said.
