Miami, Oct 27 (IANS) Arjun Atwal had a low-key finish as he carded a final round of even par 71 with four each of birdies and bogeys on Sunday at the Miccosukee Championship. Atwal finished at three-under 281 for the week and was tied 30th.Atwal, who won the week before on Nationwide to seal his PGA Tour card, opened with two bogeys on first two holes, just as he had on first day, and later had a birdie on fifth and a third bogey on ninth to turn in two-over. On the back nine, he birdied 10th and 11th, but dropped a bogey on 12th and picked a birdie on 14th.
Atwal is tied 17th on the Nationwide Money List, from where the top-25 move to PGA Your next year.
In one of the most exciting finishes on the Nationwide Tour, D.A. Points holed a wedge from 125 yards for eagle at the 72nd hole of the Miccosukee Championship Sunday. He then waited to see if Matt Bettencourt could hole a 15-foot putt to join him in a playoff. Bettencourt’s putt found the bottom of the cup to tie Points at 12-under 272 and the pair returned to the 18th hole for sudden death.
Points (67), drove almost it in his same divot a mere 10 minutes earlier and then flew a wedge to four feet. When Bettencourt (67) missed for birdie from 14 feet, Points rolled in the four-footer to earn his fourth Nationwide Tour victory.
Bryce Molder (67), Josh Broadway (68) and Gavin Coles (68) finished tied for third at 10-under 274.
Points, who resides in Orlando, jumped 25 spots, from 40th to 15th with the $112,500 winners cheque.
The Nationwide Tour now has a week off before heading to Dallas, Texas for the season finale, the Nationwide Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch. With a $1 million purse, some players will be hoping to move up and finish in the top-25 and graduate to the PGA TOUR.
