March 24th, 2010 - 4:14 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 24 (IANS) The Editors Guild of India Wednesday expressed “dismay” over the attack on the ABN-Andhra Jyothi news channel in Hyderabad allegedly by Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) activists.
“Such attacks on news channels are deplorable and cannot be justified in any way,” the Guild said in a statement, asking political parties in Andhra Pradesh and across the country to “stay away from attacking journalists and their offices”.
It said several such attacks on newspaper and channel offices across the country in recent times have raised “serious questions for our democracy”.
“In a civil society, disagreements must be conveyed through peaceful, democratic means. The Editors Guild of India strongly condemns this attack and hopes that police will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.”
