February 27th, 2010 - 10:02 pm ICT by IANSGurgaon, Feb 27 (IANS) Three men made off with an automated teller machine (ATM) in an audacious robbery here early Saturday after locking up the guard, police said.
The ATM was later found in adjoining Mewat district and a police team that had been sent to retrieve it had not returned till late at night.
“We will know how much money was stolen only after the team returns,” a police officer said.
The robbers used a gas cutter to uproot the ATM of the ING Vysya Bank, situated at Sector 4-5 crossing, and took it away in a car, police said.
According to the guard, Surendra Kumar, the three men had asked him to switch off the light of the ATM.
“I first thought they were security staff of the bank but when I asked for their identity cards, they beat me up,” he said.
Police said that the robbers first restrained him at gunpoint and then pushed him into a cupboard when he shouted for help.
