Ashvarya, Ankita advance on day one of ITF women
June 13th, 2011 - 7:47 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 13 (IANS) India’s Ashvarya Shrivastava and Ankita Raina moved into the second round of the $10,000 ITF women’s tournament at the DLTA complex here Monday.
Ashvarya, seeded fourth, overcame a first-set resistance from South Korea’s Jung-Yoon Shin to win 7-5, 6-2. She next plays the winner of the match between Patricia Haas of Austria and India’s Gopika Kapoor.
Seventh-seeded Ankita swept aside compatriot Vaniya Dangwal 6-4, 6-3. She next plays China’s Zhaoxuan Yang, who outclassed Indian qualifier Prarthana G. Thombare 6-1, 6-1.
In another first round match, qualifier Nimisha Mohan crushed wildcard Smriti Joon 6-0, 6-2.
