Bharatiya Janata Party Bangalore, May 17 (IANS) Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj Tuesday celebrated his 75th birthday without much fanfare as a battle raged on in the state and in New Delhi over his recommendation to sack the B.S. Yeddyurappa government.

With Yeddyurappa and most of the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders away in New Delhi, only Congress and Janata Dal-Secular leaders met him at Raj Bhavan to greet him.

Among them were JD-S president and former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Siddaramaiah of the Congress.

Bhardwaj, born May 17, 1937, in Garhi village in Haryana, became Karnataka governor on June 29, 2009, after he was not included in the second United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at New Delhi. He was law minister in the first UPA government.

A post-graduate in arts and law degree holder, Bhardwaj was a Rajya Sabha member for several years and is considered a Gandhi family loyalist.

His special interests are criminal justice and legal aid programmes, and his favourite pastime is gardening and farming, according to the governor’s website.

Bhardwaj is married to Prafulata and the couple has two daughters and a son.
