New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) A life-size glass automobile, huge tree installations suspended from the ceiling and an image of Krishna made from hand prints - the Lalit Kala Akademy’s 20th anniversary exhibition, which centres around the theme of magic realism, is a must see in the capital.
Titled ‘Lo Real Maravilloso: Marvellous Reality’, the exhibition draws inspiration from sources as diverse as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Laura Esquivel, Salman Rushdie, Joanne Harris, Mikhail Bulgakov, Milan Kundera and Louis de Bernieres.

Merging reality with myth and magic, 37 artists from around the world - who include photographers, sculptors, painters and performers - have played with their imagination through their respective mediums to bring together a spectacular exhibition.

One of the art works is that of Shilpa Gupta’s in which mediums such as interactive video, website, objects, photographs, sound and public performances are used to probe the notion of security on the street, religion and desire.

Well-known photographer Bandeep Singh showcases his body of work which spans genres such as documentary photography, conceptual landscape and nature studies to portraiture and eroticism.

The exhibition includes works by Amit Ambalal, Anandajit Ray, Anila Rubiku, Bandeep Singh, Baptist Coelho, Barbara Ellmerer, Bharti Kher, Bhupen Khakhar and Chintan Upadhyay.

The exhibition, which began Dec 9, will culminate Dec 18.
