Art house films make waves in Bengal: Rahul Bose
April 12th, 2011 - 5:25 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, April 12 (IANS) Art house films are making waves in West Bengal as the state has a vast cinema literate audience, feels actor Rahul Bose who has starred in Bollywood as well as Bengali movies.
“I think the semi-art house and art house films in Bengal are really making waves. The quality of people who come to watch in Kolkata is far more cinema literate in one place than in the rest of India,” Rahul told IANS.
“In the rest of the country, there are many cinema literate people but they are too few, scattered in too many places, to justify exhibition,” said Rahul.
He is on to another Bengali film. This time he shoots for “Laptop” directed by actor-director Kaushik Ganguly.
“‘Laptop’ is an awesome piece. It has four stories and I am in one of them,” Bose told IANS.
He has worked with acclaimed Bengali directors like Aparna Sen in “Mr & Mrs Iyer” (2002), “15 Park Avenue” (2005) and “The Japanese Wife” (2010) and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury in “Anuranan” (2006) and “Antaheen” (2009).
Rahul had earlier done a small acting sequence with Ganguly in “Antaheen”, but this is the first time he will be directed by the latter.
Talking about “Laptop”, Rahul said: “It’s the story of travel of a laptop that ends up with me. I play a publisher. The film has four stories and I am in one of them. I liked the stories very much. Kaushik is a wonderful actor. It’s a pleasure to work with him,” said Bose.
Ganguly’s last film “Arekti Premer Galpo” drew huge applause and marked filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh’s debut as an actor.
