London, Aug 28 (IANS) Arsenal are poised to sign Moncao striker and South Korean football captain Park Chu-Young from under the noses of Lille.
French champions Lille were eager to sign the 26-year-old before Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger stepped up his pursuit.
According to media reports, Park had agreed to all the terms of Lille and had appeared for the first part of a medical but failed to show up for the second part after Arsenal offered him a lucrative contract.
The Monaco striker is expected to undergo his medical anytime soon in London in his bid to complete a move that is worth 10 million pounds.
“We haven’t had a telephone call, nothing. From what we understand he could be at Arsenal. Like Monaco, Lille are baffled. Everything had been agreed,” Lille president Michel Seydoux was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Park, who had previously been linked with Fulham, is likely to be fifth signing at Arsenal after the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Park had scored an own goal in South Korea’s 1-4 defeat by Argentina at the 2010 World Cup, but atoned for it in their next match against Nigeria by scoring a free-kick in a 2-2 draw, that helped the Asian giants to advance to the last 16.
