Maya Devi (40) was found hanging from her saree inside the toilet of a women’s police station. Her family, however, alleged it was police excesses that drove her to suicide.
“Maya Devi was accused of killing a woman. She was arrested Friday,” Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Rai told reporters in Faizabad, some 140 km from Lucknow.
“An inquiry has been ordered into the case. The body of the woman has been sent for post-mortem examination,” he added.
