Arrested excise official’s health improving, court told

Srivastava’s health has improved and he can be discharged in a few days from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he is in judicial custody, a Delhi court was told Tuesday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Talwant Singh said that a medical report by AIIMS of Srivastava’s improving health condition was received. The report said that the accused did not require further medical inspection.
Srivastava was arrested Jan 13 but admitted to AIIMS.
Srivastava, excise Superintendent Lallan Ojha and middleman Hemant Gandhi were involved in allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs.60 lakh from mobile phone importers.
The court meanwhile sent Ojha and Gandhi in judicial custody till Jan 31.
According to the CBI, Ojha Dec 28, along with a team of central excise officials, conducted a surprise raid at the warehouse of Dilip Aggarwal and Anand Aggarwal and negotiated a deal for illegal gratification.
The CBI recovered a cheque of Rs.20 lakh and currency notes along with other evidence.
The probe agency booked the accused under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
