Around 30 teams for Rally de Sea View
July 7th, 2011 - 8:20 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, July 7 (IANS) Around 30 teams will participate in the 160-km Rally de Sea View motor sports event traversing popular sea resorts including Digha, Shankarpur and Mandarmoni in West Bengal Saturday.
The rally, to be held in time-speed-distance format, will be split into two legs, with part of the route comprising tarmac and dirt tracks, director of organisers Ramakrishna Race Performance Management Amittrajit Ghosh, told mediapersons here.
The first leg of 100 kms wil start from Shankarpur in Weast Midnaproe district, zoom through Mandarmoni and Contai and end at Shankarpur.
The second leg of 60 km will begin from Shankarpur, cross Mandarmoni and bypass Peduaghat (designated as the site of one India’s biggest harbours).
The rally driver finishing first will be richer by Rs.100,000, while the second and third placed contestants will receive Rs.60,000 and Rs.40,000 respectively. Besides the first five teams, the best novice team will also receive a cash award, Ghosh said.
All the cars will be monitored by a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker. “This will be the first motor-sports even in eastern India where all the cars will be monitored by GPS. This will enable us to find out if any car is stuck anywhere and needs any kind of help or if any vehicle is over-speeding at any point,” Ghosh said.
However, the dirt section will be manually monitored.
