Arms recovered in West Bengal
May 21st, 2011 - 10:13 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, May 21 (IANS) Large number of arms and ammunition were recovered Saturday from two districts in West Bengal, police said.
“At least 15 firearms were recovered from Kashijhore village near proposed steel plant in Salboni area of West Midnapore district,” said Additional Police Superintendent Sukesh Jain.
“No arrests have been made,” Jain told IANS over phone.
In East Midnapore district, 122 rounds of cartridges were fished out from a pond near a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) office at Kolagachia village.
“Acting on villagers’ information, we conducted raids and fished out 122 rounds of cartridges from the pond,” Superintendent of Police K. Jayraman told IANS over phone.
“The locals alleged that the cartridges were dumped into the pond by the CPI-M cadres. We are not ruling out any possibility and have detained two people for interrogation,” said Jayraman.
