Kolkata, March 8 (IANS) Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from a camp in Lalgarh area of West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Tuesday, officials said. Nine people were held and handed over to the local police.

“Acting on a tip-off, we conducted raids at a camp of miscreants in the forest adjacent to Masina village in Salboni near Maoist-dominated Lalgarh. As we approached towards the camp, the miscreants fired at us and our jawans retaliated,” said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Inspector General T.B. Rao.

“We nabbed nine people, including two who had sustained bullet injuries, and recovered 15 firearms, one .315 rifle and ammunition and explosives. Later, the miscreants were handed over to the local police,” he said.

“We are not aware of their political affiliation,” Rao added.
