Armed men try to abduct Delhi businessman

October 28th, 2009 - 9:42 pm ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) Six men, including one in police uniform, attacked a city-based businessman and tried to abduct him during morning rush hour in a crowded outer delhi area, the victim said in his complaint to police Wednesday.
Gaurav Aggarwal, who owns the popular rice brand Jagat, told police that he was in his BMW car when a man in a traffic police’s uniform signalled him to stop around 10.30 a.m. in Rani Bagh area of outer Delhi.

The ‘policeman’ asked the driver to show his driving license. As the driver rolled down the window-panes of the bullet-proof BMW, a Santro car pulled over in front of Aggarwal’s car.

Aggarwal said that four men got down from the car and tried to pull Aggarwal out of his vehicle. The assailants also fired some shots in the air.

In his complaint, Aggarwal said his driver honked repeatedly and both he and the driver screamed for help. When some passing vehicles stopped to see what the commotion was about, the assailants fled from the spot.

Police, however, said it could be a case of road rage.

“We are examining all conflicting statements and versions and would proceed legally once we have ascertained the entire case,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Katiyar said.

A case is yet to be registered.

Pramod Aggarwal, the victim’s family member, said: “We do not have any personal enmity with anyone. The case didn’t seem like road rage or an attempt to rob. We can’t really understand what happened.”
