Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), June 27 (IANS) Armaan Ebrahim, the 22-year old from India, missed out on a points-scoring position in the sixth round of the Formula 2 championship here Sunday following a collision four laps from the finish.

Armaan, sponsored by JK Tyre, Amaron and Trimex, looked certain to get among points when he was running ninth, but his attempt to pass Thiemo Storz at the first corner led to contact between the two.

The incident effectively ended Armaan’s race as he suffered damage to the suspension and eventually finished two laps down.

“It was a disappointing weekend from the perspective of scoring points. Sunday, I was very much in the running for points after starting from 14th position and moving to ninth.

“With four laps to go, I attempted a pass on Storz going into the first corner, but he shut the door and we made contact. I suffered damage to the suspension and it put me out of the race,” said Armaan.

For the fifth round Saturday, Armaan opted for a high down-force set-up in view of the rains, but it turned down to be a misjudgement as the showers stopped soon after the race began.

Although having made place to move to 10th by the end of three laps, Armaan was passed by others who were quicker on the straights and the Indian had to be content with 13th place finish.

“In the Saturday’s qualifying session, I thought I had a good chance of finishing in top-10, but on my boost lap, I ran into traffic.

“The race started in the rains. I opted for high down-force instead of low in view of the wet conditions, but it proved to be a bad call because it stopped raining after the race started.

Looking ahead to rounds seven and eight to be run at Nurburgring, Germany from July 2-3, Armaan said: “We have made some progress, but we have to make sure we don’t get involved in any incidents such as the one in Spa. I am hoping for the best.”
