Argentine jerseys, flags high on demand
September 2nd, 2011 - 8:39 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Sep 2 (IANS) Ecstatic soccer fans painted their face in Argentine colours, while flags and jerseys of the South American nation sold at a premium, as a cracker of an atmosphere prevailed around the Salt Lake stadium.
Teenager Raju Haldar travelled more than 20 km from New Barrackpore to Kolkata with a large stock of Argentine flags and jerseys.
“I have already sold 30 flags and ten jerseys. Each flag is fetching me Rs.30,” said the boy, who minutes later hiked the prices of flags to Rs.50.
Each Argentine jersey was priced at Rs.250. But the number 10 jersey worn by team skipper Lionel Messi sold for Rs.400 per piece.
“There are no takers for Venezuelan jerseys,? said Haldar.
Rony Pal, who came from the city?s northern fringes, seemed happy with his business.
“Lot of people are painting their faces in Argentine colours. I have already made Rs.600,” said the 35-year old man.
