January 30th, 2011 - 11:15 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 30 (IANS) The 15 Somali pirates, apprehended by the Indian Navy from the Arabian Sea Friday, will be interrogated by police and central agencies in Mumbai, where they are being brought, a navy officer said here Sunday. The navy’s fast attack craft INS Cankarso had destroyed the pirates’ mother-ship, the hijacked Thai fishing trawler Prantalay, during a gun battle in the high seas west of Lakshadweep and the 15 pirates had jumped overboard.
The officer said the sea brigands would be subjected to extensive interrogation by the navy, police and central agencies, first to establish their identities, nationalities, modus operandi and their associates.
The navy had also rescued 20 original crew members of Prantalay, who too had jumped off the fishing trawler. The Thai and Myanmarese fishermen are being taken to Kochi where they will be questioned before they are sent back to their homes, the officer added.
