Apex court stays death penalty of Mumbai blast convict

April 4th, 2008 - 1:26 pm ICT by admin -

New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday stayed the death sentence of Zakir Hussain Noor Mohammed Shaikh, a death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case. A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan suspended Shaikh’s death penalty while admitting his plea challenging the verdict of Mumbai’s anti terror court, which convicted him on charges of terrorism.

Sheikh had detonated a bomb in the Mahim fishermen’s colony in Mumbai, killing three people and injuring six others.
